This week I review the teams making up Div/Pool 1. NSW Wolfpack, South Australia Swarm and the Western Australia Raiders.
The Wolfpack are current and 4 time reigning National Champions, although there is a new coaching crew in 2010 they have built a solid core group of players over the last few years and will be looking to draw on the experience of these players including several Australia reps to retain their title. With a swarming defense and efficient offense based mostly around a single back formation the boys in Blue will be coming into the Championships as favourites.
During the 2008 Nationals held on the Gold Coast the W.A Raiders showed that pride and courage can be enough to power an under strength team against larger opponents. Losing 3 of 4 games over the week the Raiders stood up where it counted and finished on a high note beating QLD in the 3rd place playoff game. Will they be able to bring a larger squad this time and push for the title? W.A will have the advantage of being able to watch the NSW v SA game on Saturday in preparation for their 2nd round clash with S.A.
The South Australian Swarm are making a return to the National Championship scene after missing the 08 tournament. The Swarm look to be the dark horse coming into the Championships boasting a handful of experienced state and Australian reps. With a lightening fast offensive backfield and destructive defensive back crew the S.A team also have an advantage of playing all their regular season games on a similar surface to the SNHC fields which should provide for some entertaining football.
