2nd Year Fantasy Football Breakouts!/?

With the 2010 NFL Draft hype finally over us fans can begin to prepare for whats really important: our fantasy football drafts.  Now, instead of listing the top 5 rookies who might make a fantasy splash this season (Ryan Mathews is going to blow minds) I thought perhaps we can look at the top 5 second year players who should put up the big points instead.

1. , RB, Jets. had a fairly quiet regular season but an outstanding post season that shot him up into 2010 fantasy relevancy. Despite potentially splitting carries with LT in Rex Ryan’s run heavy offense expect him to put up good numbers. The Jets are run first because Mark Sanchez is just not there yet. Expect him to go late 1st round early 2nd in your draft.

2. , WR, Vikings. , when not suffering from migraines almost single handedly saved my fantasy season last year with some breakout performances. However be warned if he does not have Favre gunning the ball to him his value (and Sidney Rice’s too) will plummet. Late 4th round would be a steal.

3. , WR, Steelers. was the surprise hit last season along with Rashard Mendenhall for the Steelers and with Santionio Holmes being traded to the Jets expect him to step up, that is, if Ben Roethlissberger can stop being Ben Roethlissberger for the second half of the season. Look for him late in your drafts as a solid 2nd or 3rd WR.

4. , RB, Broncos. Denver might have an unstable situation at QB this year. What does that mean? Potentially more carries for the 1st round pick in the 2009 draft. Be cautious however, he will still split some carries with the veteran Correll Buckhalter. He should find himself in the 3rd or 4th rounds and could be a great RB2.

Despite his nickname I have never seen "Beanie" Wells ever wear a beanie. Something else we can blame Arizona for.

5. Chris “Beanie” Wells, RB, Cardinals. Beanie had a solid first year that would have been outstanding if Hightower weren’t  there to vulture his TDs each time. Arizona much like Denver might have a dimished passing attack so don’t be surprised if they opt for the run more often. While Beanie and Hightower are linked at the hip, he should be drafted slightly above him in the 4rd or 5th round and should be an ok RB2 or solid RB3 if you league swings that way.

Honorable mentions go to QBs Matt Stafford and Josh Freeman, both I beleive might get their hands on the ball more now that both the Lions and Bucs have addressed their defencive problems in the draft.

I’ll be running a few practice fantasy drafts over the next few weeks so expect more fantasy football posts coming up.
